Campus Housing Affordability Act

The Campus Housing Affordability Act seeks to expand federal housing assistance to students enrolled in higher education by removing a previous prohibition on such aid. It empowers the Secretary to waive specific requirements for providing tenant-based assistance to "eligible students," defined as those enrolled in higher education, living in institution-maintained housing, and otherwise qualified for assistance. Crucially, any housing assistance received through this waiver will not be considered income for various purposes, including eligibility for federal or institutional student financial aid, calculating income from cooperative education programs, or determining child support obligations, ensuring the support does not negatively impact a student's other financial assistance or responsibilities.
