This legislation directs the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to jointly select and implement a uniform credentialing and privileging system for medical providers across both departments. This initiative aims to streamline and integrate the processes for authorizing healthcare professionals within federal healthcare systems. Within 120 days of enactment, both Secretaries, in consultation with the Domestic Policy Council, must submit a comprehensive report to Congress detailing their current credentialing systems, including scope, interoperability, and limitations. This report will also provide recommendations for achieving a single, unified system, which they are then required to jointly select from existing options by January 1, 2027. The chosen system must be capable of seamlessly importing and sharing provider credentialing and privileging information between the two departments. By January 1, 2028, the Secretaries must certify to Congress that the joint uniform system has been fully implemented and is operational.
