This bill mandates that certain high-level federal employees disclose their outstanding federal student loan debt to enhance transparency. Specifically, individuals in Senior Executive Service (SES) positions and those holding Schedule C positions of a confidential or policy-determining nature are designated as "covered employees" and must report the principal and interest owed on their federal student loans. These covered employees would be required to file an initial report within 60 days of the bill's enactment and annually thereafter by February 28. New employees in these roles must also file a report within 60 days of their appointment. The Director of the Office of Government Ethics would then compile this information, including the total debt reported and the names of any non-compliant employees, and transmit an annual report to Congress by May 1.
