Updated: Jun 30, 2026

Summary

This bill aims to significantly assist veterans impacted by major disasters by expediting their disability compensation claims. It directs the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to establish new regulations that include veterans residing in Presidentially-declared major disaster areas as a category for priority claims processing . Beyond simply adding them to the priority list, the legislation mandates special considerations for these veterans. The Secretary must prescribe additional regulations to allow for flexible evidence requirements and flexible filing deadlines , acknowledging the difficulties veterans may face in disaster-stricken areas. Furthermore, within 60 days of enactment, the Department of Veterans Affairs is required to post a permanent notice on its website, informing all veterans about the expanded eligibility criteria for priority claims processing.
