MINKS are Superspreaders Act

This bill seeks to amend the Animal Welfare Act by prohibiting the captivity of American mink for fur production. Specifically, it would make it unlawful to transport, sell, breed, or possess mink raised for fur, or any related products, in interstate or foreign commerce. An exception is provided for certain entities such as zoos or research facilities. Furthermore, the legislation mandates the establishment of a buy-out program , allowing the Secretary to purchase privately owned mink farms. The purchase amount would be determined by considering the farm's three-year average mink population and its infrastructure value.
