Updated: Oct 17, 2025

Summary

This bill, titled the "Ensuring Veterans' Final Resting Place Act of 2025," significantly expands eligibility for certain Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) burial benefits. It removes the previous date restriction of November 11, 1998, for individuals to receive a VA-furnished headstone, marker, or burial receptacle , thereby allowing more veterans to qualify. Furthermore, the legislation amends existing law to modify the provision of VA burial benefits when an urn or plaque is provided, applying these changes to individuals who die on or after January 5, 2021. These amendments aim to ensure broader access to dignified final resting place options for veterans. In addition to burial benefit changes, the bill also addresses VA pension payments. Specifically, it extends the sunset date for certain limits on these payments from November 30, 2031, to May 31, 2033 , providing an 18-month extension for these provisions.
