This bill, known as the "AI for America Act," aims to establish a comprehensive national strategy for artificial intelligence, focusing on fostering American leadership , removing regulatory barriers, and ensuring data security and freedom from ideological bias. To achieve this, the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) is mandated to develop an Action Plan for AI by July 31, 2027, with biennial updates, covering areas like workforce development and public-private partnerships. Furthermore, OSTP must identify regulatory barriers to AI adoption in sectors such as healthcare, scientific research, and transportation within one year of the Act's enactment. Separately, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Director is required to submit a report within one year. This report will detail measures, including internal reviews and third-party audits, to detect and prevent security risks and ideological bias in AI data, training methods, and decision outcomes. It will also include information on criteria used by Federal agencies to assess these risks and biases, along with any corrective actions taken.
