Support and Defend Our Military Personnel and Their Families Act

This bill aims to amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to enhance protections and streamline immigration processes for military members and their families, ensuring the well-being and stability of those who serve the United States. It facilitates naturalization for individuals who have served honorably in contingency operations by treating such service as a designated period for naturalization purposes. Additionally, it prioritizes the timely reunification of military personnel with their immediate nuclear families, making spouses, children, sons, and daughters of service members eligible for immigrant visas as immediate relatives. The legislation also establishes a mechanism for the Secretary of Homeland Security to adjust the status of certain immediate family members (parents, spouses, children, siblings) of active duty personnel to lawful permanent residence, including posthumous benefits for families of service members who died due to service-related injuries. Furthermore, it introduces significant safeguards against removal proceedings for honorably serving military personnel and veterans. These safeguards require prior approval from the Secretary of Homeland Security before initiating such proceedings, mandate consideration of factors like naturalization eligibility and potential hardship, and prohibit removal under several specific grounds for these individuals.
