This bill, known as the "Restricting Ex-Vetted Officials from Knowledge Exploitation Act" or "REVOKE Act" , mandates the suspension or revocation of security clearances for certain former Department of Defense personnel. This applies to retired or separated members of the Armed Forces and civilian employees who engage in specific lobbying activities or contacts. The prohibited activities involve lobbying for or on behalf of entities identified by the Secretary of Defense as Chinese military companies and included on the Department of the Treasury's Non-SDN Chinese Military-Industrial Complex Companies List. The Secretary of Defense may, however, issue a waiver for periods not exceeding 180 days if certified to be in the national security interest of the United States.
