Pay Our Patriots Act

This bill, known as the "Pay Our Patriots Act," aims to guarantee that specific federal personnel continue to receive their pay and allowances even during a lapse in government appropriations. It specifically covers members of the Armed Forces performing active service and essential civilian employees of the Federal Aviation Administration , such as air traffic controllers and safety inspectors, who are critical for national airspace safety. The legislation ensures that these covered employees receive their full pay, allowances, and benefits, including statutory bonuses and retired pay, without interruption. To achieve this, the bill appropriates necessary funds from the Treasury to cover these payments at the rate in effect immediately before the shutdown. These appropriations remain available until a regular appropriations act or continuing resolution is enacted, or until the end of the fiscal year. Furthermore, the Secretaries of Defense, Homeland Security, and Transportation are directed to continue incurring obligations and disbursing payments for their respective covered employees as if appropriations had been timely, with funds being immediately available and exempt from reduction or sequestration.
