Home for the Brave Act of 2025

This bill proposes to amend the Department of Housing and Urban Development Act, aiming to exclude specific disability compensation and dependency and indemnity compensation received from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) from being considered as income. These excluded amounts, which include disability compensation under chapter 11 of title 38 and dependency and indemnity compensation under chapter 13 of such title, are received by a family member for service-related disabilities. The legislation mandates that these benefits will not be counted when determining a family's eligibility for housing assistance programs administered by HUD. Furthermore, they will not factor into calculating the amount of benefits payable or the rent amount for dwelling units assisted under these programs. This change seeks to ensure that veterans' disability benefits do not negatively impact their access to or the affordability of essential housing support.
