Same Day Registration Act of 2025

This bill, known as the "Same Day Registration Act of 2025," aims to amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002 by establishing a new federal mandate for voter registration. Its central purpose is to require all states to provide for same-day voter registration for federal elections, thereby expanding opportunities for citizens to participate in the electoral process. Specifically, the legislation stipulates that each state must permit any eligible individual to register to vote and cast a ballot at the polling place on the day of a federal election, or during any period when early voting is allowed. This provision also enables already registered voters to update their information at the same time. An exception applies to states that continuously have no voter registration requirement for federal elections. These new requirements are scheduled to become effective for the regularly scheduled general election for federal office in November 2026 and all subsequent federal elections.
