This legislation, known as the "Expedited Removal of Criminal Aliens Act," amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to establish new grounds for the expedited removal and mandatory detention of certain aliens. It targets individuals identified by the Department of Homeland Security as members of a criminal gang or a foreign terrorist organization , or those who have provided material support to such organizations. Additionally, the bill mandates expedited removal for aliens convicted of any felony or a range of specified serious misdemeanors. These misdemeanors include offenses against vulnerable groups (children under 16, pregnant women, individuals with severe disabilities, or those over 65), assault of law enforcement officers, sexual offenses, domestic violence, stalking, and crimes against children. Aliens falling under these categories would also be explicitly deemed ineligible for withholding of removal under any provision of the Act.
