Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa Criminal Justice Support Act

The bill amends the definition of State in title I of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968. It removes the phrase “Northern Mariana Islands” and all that follows through “Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands” and replaces it with “ Northern Mariana Islands ;”. This change means that the Northern Mariana Islands are now treated as a state for purposes of the Act. The amendment clarifies the jurisdictional scope of federal criminal statutes and related programs. No other provisions are included in the bill.
