Combating Hate Across Campus Act

This proposed legislation seeks to enhance the reporting requirements for hate crimes at institutions of higher education by amending the Higher Education Act of 1965. The bill mandates more detailed data collection regarding these incidents on college campuses. Under the changes, colleges and universities would be required to collect and report hate crime data not only by the general category of prejudice but also to disaggregate this information by subcategory . These subcategories would be determined based on the identity of the targeted individual or group, as outlined in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Hate Crime Data Collection Guidelines. This aims to provide a more granular and comprehensive understanding of hate crime incidents occurring on campuses.
