Food Farmacy Act of 2025

This bill authorizes the Secretary of Health and Human Services, in consultation with the Secretary of Agriculture, to establish a grant program for healthy food pharmacies. The primary goal is to improve health outcomes by expanding access to nutritious foods and providing nutritional guidance, particularly in underserved communities. Grants will assist in the establishment and operation of these pharmacies, covering costs such as construction, equipment (including for mobile units), staffing, and food acquisition. Eligible entities include non-profit qualified health care providers , State or local government entities , and Tribal organizations . To qualify, healthy food pharmacies must offer access to healthy foods and nutritional guidance from a qualified health care professional . They must prioritize serving low-income, rural, or food-insecure communities , providing services free of charge to individuals receiving Medicaid or SNAP benefits, and aligning with the "Food is Medicine" initiative. The Secretary may award a maximum of $500,000 per entity per fiscal year; grantees must submit annual reports on program effectiveness, with biennial summaries provided to Congress. The bill authorizes $10,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2026 through 2030 to fund this program.
