911 SAVES Act of 2025

This legislation aims to ensure that public safety telecommunicators are accurately recognized within the federal Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system. It emphasizes their critical role in emergency response, noting that their work extends far beyond simple information relay to include complex tasks like coaching callers, negotiation, and providing situational awareness during high-stress incidents. These professionals often face significant emotional and physical impact due to exposure to traumatic events, underscoring the need for appropriate classification. To address this, the bill directs the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to consider establishing a separate occupational code for public safety telecommunicators. This new classification would place them as a subset of protective service occupations during the next scheduled revision of the SOC system. Should the Director decide against creating this separate code, the bill mandates a report to Congress within 60 days, detailing the reasons for that decision.
