The AWARE Act mandates the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to develop and publicly disseminate educational resources concerning the safe and responsible use of AI chatbots by minors . These resources are specifically designed for parents, educators, and minors themselves, aiming to foster a better understanding of this emerging technology. Within 180 days of enactment, the FTC, in consultation with other federal agencies, must make these materials available. The content will cover crucial aspects such as how to identify safe versus unsafe AI chatbot use, privacy and data collection practices associated with these tools, and provide best practices for parents supervising their children's interactions with AI chatbots. The educational materials will be modeled after the FTC's existing "Youville" program to ensure a consistent and effective approach.
