The Social Security Child Protection Act of 2025 amends Title II of the Social Security Act to permit the reissuance of social security account numbers for children under 14 when the confidentiality of the original number has been compromised by loss or theft of the card. Evidence must be submitted under penalty of perjury by a parent or guardian, and the Commissioner of Social Security must determine the validity of the claim before issuing a new number. The amendment redesignates clause (iii) as clause (iv) and inserts a new clause that specifies the conditions for reissuance and the record‑keeping requirements. Effective 180 days after the act’s enactment, the new provisions become operative. This change aims to protect young children’s personal information and streamline the process for families affected by card loss or theft.
