Capital Emergency Control Act of 2025

This legislation amends the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, granting the President expanded authority to maintain control over the Metropolitan Police Department during declared emergencies. It specifically permits the President to extend the period of federal oversight beyond its initial term. These extensions would occur in additional 30-day periods , contingent on the President's determination that special emergency conditions continue to exist. To implement an extension, the President must provide written notification to the Chairmen and ranking minority members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, outlining the basis for the ongoing emergency. This act applies to any emergency declared on or after its enactment date, ensuring its immediate relevance to current or future situations.
