This legislation mandates that the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Secretary of Labor conduct a comprehensive, joint review of all grant programs within their respective departments that are designed to support the nursing workforce. Following this review, the Secretaries are required to submit a detailed report to Congress within one year of the bill's enactment. This report must include specific recommendations for changes to these existing grant programs. The recommendations are intended to improve the nursing workforce by focusing on several key areas. These include increasing nurse faculty , particularly in underserved areas, and establishing clear pathways for nurses with over 10 years of clinical experience to become faculty at nursing schools. Additionally, the report must address strategies to strengthen the overall nursing pipeline by encouraging and increasing opportunities for licensed practical nurses to advance their careers and become registered nurses.
Referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and in addition to the Committee on Education and Workforce, for a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the committee concerned.
