This bill aims to improve veterans' access to extended care services through the Veterans Community Care Program. For a three-year period, it requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to consider several crucial factors when veterans seek extended care. These factors include the veteran's preference for where, when, and how to receive services, whether they require a caregiver or attendant , and the importance of continuity of care . Furthermore, the legislation establishes an expedited approval process for certain Veterans Care Agreements. This accelerated pathway applies to veterans who express a preference for extended care from a community provider not currently under a Veterans Care Agreement and who reside more than an hour away from a qualified VA health care provider. Under this expedited process, the Secretary must approve the request within 30 days , even if the provider doesn't meet all standard criteria, and provide in-home care services during the interim approval period.
