Participating governments will input details such as the law's enactment and effective dates, the size of the government, and crucial data on gun violence and gun death rates both before and after the law's implementation. The primary goal is to assess and document the success of these laws in reducing gun violence within their respective jurisdictions. The database will be searchable by any state or local unit of government , facilitating the sharing of best practices and evidence-based strategies. The Secretary is also directed to conduct outreach to encourage participation and will submit biennial reports to Congress detailing submissions, common topics, successful laws, and participation levels, with authorized appropriations of $1.5 million for fiscal year 2026 and $1 million annually thereafter.
