This bill, titled the Preventing Fraudulent ICE Impersonation Act of 2025, aims to deter the unauthorized impersonation of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. It makes it unlawful for individuals not authorized by the Department of Homeland Security to wear or display ICE apparel or insignia in a manner that suggests they are federal law enforcement, carrying penalties of up to 7 years imprisonment or a fine. The legislation also prohibits the unauthorized manufacture, sale, or distribution of any ICE-branded apparel or insignia, imposing a civil penalty of up to $100,000 per violation. Unauthorized items are subject to seizure and forfeiture , and the bill mandates a sentencing enhancement of at least six months for impersonating an immigration official. To further address the issue, the Act directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to establish a public awareness campaign and a national reporting mechanism, including a dedicated hotline and online portal, for reporting impersonations. The Comptroller General will also conduct regular studies and report to Congress on the underlying factors contributing to such impersonations.
