It amends Title XVIII of the Social Security Act to establish a new requirement for healthcare providers. Specifically, beginning one year after the bill's enactment, Medicare will not make payments for a mastectomy unless the provider first informs the patient that breast reconstruction surgery following a medically necessary mastectomy is covered under Medicare's national coverage determination 140.2. Furthermore, the provider must document the provision of this information in the patient's medical record. This measure seeks to ensure patients are fully aware of their coverage options for post-mastectomy care.
