This legislation mandates the Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through the Commissioner of Food and Drugs, to undertake a comprehensive study concerning the human health impacts of exposure to microplastics present in food and water. The study is specifically designed to identify major pathways of human exposure to these microplastics. Furthermore, the study will thoroughly address the potential health consequences, focusing on critical areas such as children's health , the endocrine system , cancer, chronic illness, and reproductive health, alongside any other pertinent areas determined by the Secretary. Within one year of the bill's enactment, the Secretary is required to submit a detailed report to Congress, outlining the study's findings and conclusions. This report must also include specific recommendations for legislative or administrative action to mitigate the identified human health impacts of microplastic exposure.
