This legislation requires the Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Commander of United States European Command, to submit a comprehensive report on the security relationship between the United States and the Hellenic Republic. Due within 120 days of enactment, this report will be provided to the appropriate congressional committees. The report must detail basing rights granted under the updated United States-Greece Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement (MDCA) and describe United States activities and investments on these bases since October 2021. It also requires a projection of necessary investments for United States basing rights at Alexandroupolis and an analysis of the potential for additional bases or an expanded United States military presence, particularly on Greek islands. Finally, the report will assess the status of security cooperation efforts mandated by the United States-Greece Defense and Interparliamentary Partnership Act of 2021, highlighting the strategic importance of Greece and the robust bilateral security partnership.
