He served with the 75th Ranger Regiment, deploying to both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Corporal Tillman was tragically killed in Afghanistan in 2004 while providing cover for his fellow soldiers, an act for which he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.
