This bill directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to issue guidance within one year on Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage for covered pelvic health services , which include pelvic floor examinations and pelvic health physical therapy, furnished during the prenatal or postpartum period. This guidance will encompass best practices for innovative payment models, recommendations for financing options, and technical assistance for states on increasing access to these services, along with suggested terminology and diagnosis codes for pelvic floor dysfunction. Concurrently, the Comptroller General is mandated to conduct a study and report to Congress within one year on existing coverage gaps for pelvic health services for postpartum women under Medicaid. Additionally, the legislation establishes a Postpartum Pelvic Health Education Campaign , to be led by the Secretary through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This program will educate and train health professionals on conducting pelvic floor examinations and the benefits of pelvic health physical therapy. It will also inform postpartum women about the importance, availability, and process of obtaining these examinations and referrals for physical therapy, aiming to improve overall postpartum outcomes.
