Protect the First Amendment Act

This legislation establishes a prohibition on the Federal Government's use of funds. Specifically, it prevents federal agencies from entering into contracts or providing awards to certain designated entities or any organization engaging in what the bill defines as "covered behavior." The bill explicitly names NewsGuard Technologies, Inc. and Global Disinformation Index (including its various corporate forms) as "covered entities." Furthermore, "covered behavior" is defined as any operation, activity, or product designed to demonetize or rate the credibility of domestic entities, such as news outlets, based on their lawful speech, under the guise of evaluating it as misinformation, disinformation, or malinformation. This measure aims to prevent federal funding from supporting activities deemed to be censorship.
