Energy Transitions Initiative Authorization Act of 2025

This bill, titled the "Energy Transitions Initiative Authorization Act of 2025," mandates the Secretary of Energy to establish a new grant program. This initiative will provide funding to eligible entities for the development of resilient energy systems in remote communities, island communities, and Tribal communities. The grants, capped at $5,000,000 per project and covering up to 90 percent of costs, aim to address the unique challenges these isolated areas face, such as high energy costs, limited infrastructure, and vulnerability to natural disasters. Eligible projects include implementing energy efficiency measures, developing various renewable energy systems (hydropower, solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, wave), microgrids, and necessary electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure. The Secretary is also directed to provide technical assistance to grantees for one to two years through the Energy Transitions Initiative Partnership Program. The bill authorizes an appropriation of $31,000,000 annually for fiscal years 2026 through 2030 and requires annual audits by the Government Accountability Office to ensure proper use of funds and program effectiveness.
