Filling Public Safety Vacancies Act

This bill makes emergency supplemental appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2025. It allocates $162,000,000 to provide grants for the hiring and rehiring of additional career law enforcement officers, aiming to fill public safety vacancies. Law enforcement agencies utilizing these appropriated funds are mandated to perform a background check and ensure a psychological evaluation for each officer hired or rehired. The cost of these checks and evaluations can be covered by the appropriated funds or other agency funds. The entire appropriation is designated as an emergency requirement.
