This legislation mandates the Attorney General to establish the Elder LGBTQI+ Defense and Enhance Resources (ELDER) Task Force within 90 days of enactment. Composed of members from the Department of Justice's Elder Justice Initiative and Division of Civil Rights, this task force is specifically designed to address the rising issue of elder abuse targeting LGBTQI+ individuals. The Task Force's primary duties include studying the increased incidence of this specific type of elder abuse and developing comprehensive best practices for a national approach, as well as for State and local law enforcement agencies. It will also be responsible for creating and distributing educational materials focused on preventing and responding to elder abuse against LGBTQI+ individuals, while coordinating the response of various law enforcement levels. A report detailing the Task Force's progress must be submitted to the House and Senate Judiciary Committees within one year.
