FAST Act

This legislation authorizes the Secretary of Defense to procure software and data to advance artificial intelligence systems for the Department of Defense. This includes acquiring software as a service or product, and data as a service or supply, along with the ability to modify software and conduct related research, development, testing, and evaluation. The bill provides significant funding flexibility, allowing the Secretary to utilize any appropriated or available funds for these purposes. To ensure proper implementation and oversight, it mandates the Secretary of Defense to issue or modify regulations governing the procurement and modification of software and data specifically for AI systems.
