This legislation, known as the Border Operations Service Medal Act , mandates the establishment of a new service medal to honor individuals involved in designated border security operations. The medal will be awarded to active-duty members of the Armed Forces , as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve , and Federal personnel who served in these operations from January 1, 2025, until their conclusion. The Secretary of Defense, in consultation with military service branch heads, is tasked with designing and issuing this "Border Operations Service Medal." Congress finds that recognizing these contributions with a distinct medal is essential for honoring their dedication to national security, humanitarian, and enforcement efforts. The medal will be authorized for wear according to military uniform regulations, and the Secretary of Defense must issue implementing regulations within 60 days of the Act's enactment.
