This bill, known as the Public Land Search and Rescue Act , mandates the Secretary of the Interior to establish a grant program within one year of enactment. The program's primary purpose is to allocate resources for remote search and rescue activities conducted on federal lands under the jurisdiction of either the Secretary of the Interior or the Secretary of Agriculture. Eligible recipients, defined as states, political subdivisions, or their designees authorized to conduct such activities, can apply for these grants. The Secretary will prioritize applications from areas with a high ratio of visitors to residents , and the federal share of funding for eligible purposes will not exceed 75 percent of the total cost. Eligible purposes include the purchase and maintenance of necessary equipment and gear, as well as reimbursement for actual remote search and rescue operations.
