HUD Accountability Act of 2025

This bill significantly enhances congressional oversight of the Department of Housing and Urban Development by requiring the Secretary to provide annual testimony. The Secretary would appear before the House Committee on Financial Services and the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs to report on the Department's operations from the preceding year. The annual testimony must cover a comprehensive range of topics to ensure transparency and accountability. Key areas include the current programs and operations of HUD, the physical condition of public and assisted housing , and the financial health of FHA mortgage insurance funds . Furthermore, the Secretary is required to discuss HUD's oversight of grantees to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse, the progress made in addressing the affordable housing and homelessness crises , and the Department's capacity to deliver on its statutory mission.
