This legislation amends title 38, United States Code, to broaden access to temporary lodging facilities provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs. It specifically expands eligibility for facilities like Fisher Houses , which are housing facilities located at or near VA medical centers, offering temporary accommodation for patients and their families. The bill permits certain TRICARE beneficiaries , defined as "covered beneficiaries" under title 10, to utilize these lodging options on a space-available basis . This new access is granted when these beneficiaries must travel a significant distance to receive medical care or services at a non-Department facility. Additionally, family members and others providing essential support to these TRICARE beneficiaries are also made eligible for temporary lodging under the same conditions, with the Secretary of Veterans Affairs directed to establish criteria for this expanded access.
