The "Loved Ones Interment Act" proposes to amend title 38, United States Code, to expand the circumstances under which the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) can furnish headstones and markers for deceased veterans. Specifically, it addresses situations where a veteran has been cremated and an urn or commemorative plaque was previously provided by the VA. Under this bill, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs would be authorized to also furnish a headstone or marker for such a cremated veteran. This authorization applies if the veteran is interred at the same burial site as another individual eligible under section 2402(a) of title 38, typically a spouse or dependent. The headstone or marker must include information for both individuals, and its cost must not exceed the maximum amount permitted by law due to this additional information.
