Transit Captions Innovations Act

This bill mandates the Secretary of Transportation to establish a grant program aimed at deploying innovative real-time transcription and translation technology within transit systems. The primary goal is to significantly enhance the transit experience for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have limited English proficiency , ensuring better accessibility and communication. The legislation amends existing federal code to explicitly include the deployment of this technology as an eligible project under the Federal Transit Administration's research, development, demonstration, and deployment programs. To fund these crucial initiatives, the bill authorizes specific appropriations, starting with $4,000,000 for fiscal year 2027 and incrementally increasing through fiscal year 2031.
