PSLF Payment Completion Fairness Act

This legislation, titled the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Payment Completion Fairness Act, seeks to expand eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. Its primary goal is to ensure that borrowers who have fulfilled their public service commitment are not disqualified due to their employment status at the exact moment of forgiveness. The bill achieves this by amending Section 455(m)(1)(B) of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Specifically, it removes the current requirement that a borrower must be employed in a qualifying public service job at the time their loans are forgiven. Under this proposed change, borrowers would only need to demonstrate that they have completed 120 qualifying payments while working in public service to be eligible for loan forgiveness.
