Taiwan Representative Office Act

This bill mandates the Secretary of State to seek negotiations with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) to rename its office in Washington D.C. as the "Taiwan Representative Office." The legislation aims to provide the people of Taiwan with de facto diplomatic treatment equivalent to that of foreign countries, in line with the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances. Should the renaming be successful, all United States Government references to TECRO would automatically be considered references to the new "Taiwan Representative Office." However, the bill explicitly states that this measure is not to be construed as restoring diplomatic relations with the Republic of China (Taiwan) or altering the United States' established position regarding Taiwan's international status.
