The "Preventing Environmental Hazards Act of 2025" aims to expand the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) by providing coverage for structures threatened by shoreline erosion. It amends the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 to offer financial assistance for structures deemed unsafe or condemned due to imminent collapse or subsidence from erosion, or those situated over water or bluffs. Eligible property owners can receive payments for either proper demolition or relocation of their at-risk structures, with demolition offering an initial 40 percent payment and relocation up to 40 percent of the structure's value, capped by actual costs. Coverage is limited to $250,000 , excludes contents, and requires prior continuous NFIP coverage. Importantly, once assistance is provided, no subsequent flood insurance or disaster relief will be available for that structure or any new structure on the same land parcel.
