Defense of Conscience in Health Care Act

This legislation directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to issue a final rule within six months of its enactment, aiming to protect statutory conscience rights in health care . This mandate falls under existing Federal conscience and anti-discrimination laws. The required rule must be identical or materially equivalent to the former regulation specified in 45 CFR part 88, as it was in effect on July 22, 2019. Additionally, the final rule must explicitly state that it supersedes any other contradictory rules that are in existence at the time of its issuance, thereby establishing a clear and consistent standard for these protections.
