This bill, titled the "Mobile Post Office Relief Act," requires the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to deploy mobile retail units to geographic areas when their local post office temporarily ceases to provide services. Specifically, within three business days of a postal retail facility becoming a "covered postal retail facility," the USPS must station a mobile unit in that area. A facility is considered "covered" if it is at least half a mile from other postal facilities, has temporarily stopped providing retail services, and has been unavailable for the preceding 60 days. These mobile units are tasked with providing a range of retail postal services , including the sale of packaging materials, and offering a means for post office box holders to receive their mail. They must also accept and process forms for change of address or temporary mail halts. The mobile services are to continue until the original postal facility resumes operations. For facilities already meeting the "covered" criteria upon the bill's enactment, the USPS has 30 days to deploy the necessary mobile units.
