This legislation aims to provide equitable treatment for the Cape Fox Village Corporation, established for the Native Village of Saxman, Alaska, under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). It specifically waives the requirement for Cape Fox to select or receive conveyance of approximately 185 acres of unconveyed land within the core township where the Native Village of Saxman is located, a provision typically mandated by ANCSA. Instead, the bill directs the Secretary of the Interior to convey approximately 180 acres of Federal land within the Tongass National Forest to Cape Fox upon written notice of selection. Concurrently, the subsurface estate of this land will be conveyed to Sealaska Corporation. These conveyances are intended to fulfill the land entitlements of both Cape Fox and Sealaska Corporation under ANCSA, and they will be subject to a public access easement for National Forest System land.
