This legislation proposes to officially rename the body of water currently known as the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America . Upon enactment, all existing references to the Gulf of Mexico in any United States law, map, regulation, or document will be legally considered references to the new name. The Secretary of the Interior, through the Board on Geographic Names, is tasked with overseeing the implementation of this renaming across all federal documents and maps. Furthermore, each federal agency must update its respective documents and maps to reflect the "Gulf of America" within 180 days of the section's enactment.
