This bill amends the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to allow eligible entities receiving funds under the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program to use those funds for a new purpose: providing broadband vouchers. These vouchers are intended for households in political subdivisions where the eligible entity determines there is a lack of adequate broadband service, aiming to expand internet access. To ensure equitable distribution, eligible entities must prioritize households in political subdivisions with a per capita income below the median for that entity. Vouchers are specifically limited to households residing in unserved or underserved locations and can cover certain eligible broadband service costs for a single period of 12 consecutive months. These costs include 50 percent of the purchase, lease, or rental of broadband customer premises equipment for satellite or fixed wireless service, and up to $30 per month for the satellite or fixed wireless broadband service itself.
