This bill, titled the "Advancing Enrollment and Reducing Drug Costs Act," seeks to expand access to Medicare Part D subsidies for certain low-income individuals. It amends the Social Security Act to provide for the automatic qualification of specific Medicaid beneficiaries for premium and cost-sharing assistance under the Medicare prescription drug program. Specifically, the legislation targets Part D eligible individuals who are enrolled in a State Medicaid plan under particular provisions (Section 1902(a)(10)(A)(i)(VIII) or (ii)(XX)) on the day before they turn 65. To qualify, these individuals must also have an income below 200 percent of the federal poverty line . Such individuals will be treated as subsidy-eligible for a limited period, as determined by the Secretary, helping to reduce their out-of-pocket drug costs. The amendments made by this bill are slated to become effective for Medicare Part D plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2027 .
