This legislation aims to authorize the President to extend nondiscriminatory treatment , also known as normal trade relations (NTR) status, to products originating from Uzbekistan. This action would effectively remove Uzbekistan from the restrictions imposed by Title IV of the Trade Act of 1974, which governs trade with certain non-market economy countries. Specifically, the bill empowers the President to determine that Title IV should no longer apply to Uzbekistan and subsequently proclaim the extension of NTR treatment. Once this proclamation is made and NTR is extended, Title IV of the Trade Act of 1974 will cease to be applicable to Uzbekistan. The provisions of this Act will only become effective after the President certifies to Congress that Uzbekistan has successfully acceded to and become a member of the World Trade Organization.
